Invent your own search path

The solver fills the board in whatever order you choose. Click (or drag) cells in the order you want them filled, then race your path against the classics on the same puzzle. Spoiler: the order matters a lot. You can also reveal a few pieces as hints and watch the search collapse, just like the puzzle's real clues. Want to predict which order wins before racing? That's exactly what complex theory estimates — the expected node count of a path, depth by depth.

Like the real Eternity II: confine some colors to the border band, the rest to the deep interior (needs size ≥ 4, colors ≥ 2).

Predict the cost before you race

Brendan Owen's complex theory scores a fill order without running it: the expected number of nodes the search visits at its widest depth (the plateau peak) predicts which order wins. Lower is better.
